Leaders in Training

Developing the Next Generation of Leaders

The KSM Leader In Training program is designed to offer high school students with opportunities for leadership development through high quality training from professionals. Participants will also gain hands-on volunteering experience and earn hours in various roles at the Kerr Street Mission. We run two sessions each year:

  • Semester 1: September to January
  • Semester 2: February to June

What can LITs expect?

  • Hands-on leadership experience in various areas of KSM including Kids’ Club and Food Services
  • Teaching in 3 different areas to help them succeed in leadership and in life:
    • Self-Discovery – Who am I? As a leader? A person?
    • Life Skills – Budgeting, time management, etc.
    • Mental Health – How to be at your best in leadership
  • Overnight trip to  Muskoka Woods Leadership Studio for team building and more leadership development

Expectations:

  • Commitment to one full semester
  • Attendance at a mandatory two hour training session prior to the program starting
  • Commitment to at least 2 volunteer sessions per week throughout the duration of the semester. Volunteer sessions are chosen by the LITs when they register for the program. (Volunteer shifts start at 4:00pm each day)
