High School Students

We welcome high school students as volunteers as KSM. Here are some of the opportunities that we offer. Click to learn more:

Kerr Street Mission’s Student Co-op Program offers a unique opportunity for students who enrolled in their high school’s Co-Operative Education program to gain valuable work experience while making a meaningful impact on their community. Participants not only learn about the inner workings of a non-profit organization but also develop essential skills in leadership, teamwork, and community engagement. This hands-on experience not only enhances their resumes, but also instills a sense of social responsibility, empowering them to be proactive agents of positive change in their communities. Our Student Co-op Program is a win-win, fostering personal growth and making a difference in the lives of those in need!

This unpaid volunteer commitment is usually one semester in length. Typically students spend between 2-4 hours a day at KSM, Monday – Friday, however the arrangements can be flexible.

Suitable for high school students who are enrolled in a Co-Operative Education program at their school.

Help provide bread and other delicious baked goods to our neighbours in need! This volunteer opportunity involves driving to the local bakery to package up the unsold bread products and transport them to KSM. This activity is done in pairs, typically consisting of an adult and a student aged 14+.

Scheduling is very flexible according to your availability. Shifts are 1 hour maximum in length and typically start at 6pm or 7pm. We try to provide families a minimum of 1-2 shifts per month. We appreciate a long term commitment to this program. Many high school students have achieved their entire 40 hours of volunteering through this program with their younger siblings joining once they are 14+.

We ask for one application form per family please, completed by the adult who will act as the KSM representative. The form should contain the adult’s contact and other information only.
